Who We Are
Friends of Historic Forest Grove is a 501(c)(3) public charity formed and organized in 1987 by enthusiastic individuals who recognized the distinct and important place Forest Grove has in the history of Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.
Forest Grove was used as a test site for establishing a process for identifying and designating historical resources in Oregon. This process brought awareness to the number of potential structures in Forest Grove that could qualify as historic properties. FHFG was organized to help the homeowners and the community understand and appreciate the heritage of their resources and help educate them on how to preserve and restore them. FHFG provided a structure for handling funds raised to recognize significant buildings in Forest Grove.
The Friends of Historic Forest Grove operates totally on volunteer effort. Members work to document the history of the area, which is made available to the public for research purposes. The resources are also used to prepare educational programs for classroom, civic, and public presentations. Annual events include public programs on topics of historical interest such as a spring garden tour and a fall tour of the community’s historical homes. The organization also hosts other events throughout the year that serve both to enhance cultural awareness and raise funds to support the organization’s activities, goals, and projects.
